After many years of growing cut flowers, I am returning to my first love, Textile crafts.
I started knitting when I was three, spinning when I was sixteen, and weaving at eighteen.
Now I have alpacas. Six of them, all of different colours, and once a year they are very happy to be relieved of their fleeces. Then, I'm very happy to spend the next year spinning it.
When we got our first alpacas I made my own halters with a handwoven band. They caught the eye of other alpaca owners, so now I make them to order. Five sizes, adjustable, in multi-coloured cottons.
During the over twenty years that we have spent growing flowers and plants I have dabbled in a few unusual crafts.
One that I particularly enjoy is growing and decorating gourds, this uses two pleasurable pastimes in one item, plant growing and design.
Another is pineneedle basketry. Again I grow the raw materials, a variety of pine tree with extra long needles. These are then constructed into baskets and bowls.

Other crafts such as home grown hand decorated gourds; pineneedle woven baskets, and soft sculplure boxes will be on this page, as and when they are completed. These are also one offs, first in first served. The gourds and pineneedle items have been grown in New Zealand and may not be suitable for overseas purchase, please contact your customs department to determine whether it would be allowed into your country. Both items are dried.
